

On the visual side the moon, the sky and general light will be tinted red, to accommodate for the red sky the fog will also turn black for a nicer effect. You can also turn on an option in the config file to make all monsters spawned by a bloodmoon vanish at dawn (Disabled by default). You can also not sleep through a bloodmoon night (configurable). Notice that all of these things only apply to monsters spawned on the surface, you will not experience any of these effects if you are for example in a cave. The spawn limit of monsters will also be higher. During the following night monsters will spawn faster and closer to the player. By performing special rituals you can become a more skilled vampire and gain special skills like “Bat transformation” or “Revive the fallen”.Blood Moon Mod adds a lunar event called “Bloodmoon”, every night there is a chance of 5% (configurable) that a bloodmoon will rise. Vampirism Mod 1.12.2/1.11.2 adds several rituals which allow you to first become a vampire and then level up as a vampire, with higher levels you will get faster, stronger, better night vision etc, but it brings disadvantages with it, you take sun damage or are hunted by vampire hunters. Though this mod bringing Shadow Mewtwo into the game isn't technically available yet, it's close to being ready.

The blood moon event does not effect underground mob spawning (e.g., in caves).By default, the blood moon event has a 5% chance of occurring each night.

Hostile creatures will spawn significantly more frequently, and closer to the player, on the surface of the world. The moon, sky, and land will have a foggy red tint during this event.
